Who can be a Team Member?

Anyone who is able to help perform the work. Remember it is not a vacation/sightseeing tour/holiday trip or youth group trip but a work trip. The projects use workers from trades (i.e. painters, decorators, seamstress, electricians, plumbers, masons, carpenters, roofers, etc.) BUT, we also need able bodied people who can clean up, carry materials from one place to another, hand tools to the worker and generally be willing to work, teachable, helpful and able to follow instructions. All participants must be 18 years of age, unless accompanied by a responsible adult.

What does it cost to be a Team member?

The goal of TeamWorkers Abroad (TWA) is to coordinate construction mission trips to help missionaries complete work and/or service projects without creating a burden on the missionary. Therefore, attendees of trips will be responsible for the cost of their own travel expenses (including airfare, travel insurance, lodging, meals, and missionary and helper encouragement) to arrive at the project destination. While there, TWA will cover the cost of some construction materials, and incidental expenses (transportation gas, electricity, and water). Help with personal funding can sometimes be arranged through Church support, gifts, pledges, and other such means. TWA does have a limited number of Scholarship monies to those who would apply and meet the qualifications.

What do we do for tools?

In most cases the missionary supplies or gets the tools to perform the work but, you may bring your own tools, keeping in mind that you may incur additional cost in luggage fees. The Team leader can let you know what may be helpful in a specialized project and the Team can work together to provide for these needs.

How are the supplies/materials provided?

The Missionary usually supplies all the material to do the work. Any missing or special needs are usually purchased from local vendors if available. The Team Leader will be responsible for communicating with the Missionary leading up to the project to assure that the materials will be on site , complete, and ready to go when the Team arrives.

Why go on a Missions trip?

1 Corinthians 3:8-10a – Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, [you are] God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it …

Not all of us are called to a foreign mission field but, all are called to encourage and build up one another. All are called to His service and all are gifted in some way. We come to complete a task they might otherwise not be able to do themselves. We not only do the work but, we pray, fellowship, encourage, and enter into their service. We become as it is said literally, “ Boots on the Ground” in Jesus’ name. You leave part of yourself (boot prints) in God’s work in another part of the world.

Why should we go and not just send money?

Not everyone can go physically, and in those cases prayer and gifts whether monetary or otherwise are invaluable to missionaries. For those who can make the physical trip you are afforded the opportunity to see and experience first hand the culture, people and work of a missionary. Many who have gone have found the experience to be life changing from a spiritual perspective. It will change them and it will change you.

Only you know how the Lord is working in your life to call you to service.

TeamWorkers simply seek to make available, help facilitate, and bring together those who feel called and would desire to serve the Lord in this way. This is an opportunity for us to use our gifts and talents to help a missionary in practical ways.
