Day 1 Monday, April 27, 2026 – Guanajuato, Mexico
Today our team of seven traveled from Chicago to Monterrey, Mexico, and then continued on to León, where we were joined by an eighth team member, Kendall. Our full team now includes team leader Fred Scott; Gideon and Elias Welch; Kevin, Elliana and Tirzah Evers; Brant Hougas; and Kendall Jones.
After arriving, we settled into our accommodations at the home of Ivan and Laura Munguia. Following a time of rest and lunch, we traveled to our work site—a small church located about 20 minutes from where we are staying. The church has asked for our help in adding an additional level to their main building. We spent several hours today assessing the project and determining the best course of action moving forward.
In the evening, the Munguia family took us to visit El Pípila, a well-known monument overlooking the city. From there, we were able to take in a beautiful view of Guanajuato and experience the culture.
Prayers & Praises
We are thankful for God’s provision today, as our luggage expenses came in approximately $700 under what we had anticipated. We continue to trust Him to provide for the remainder of our needs throughout this trip.
Please continue to pray for safety as we begin our work in the coming days.
Thank you to everyone supporting us through prayer—we are truly grateful.
Day 7: Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 -Guanajuato, Mexico
The assembly here in Guanajuato gathered for a remembrance meeting, which continued until the late afternoon when we then ate lunch with the church. It was a very sweet and relaxing morning and provided much needed rest. We then went back to our host’s house for a rest before going to Guanajuato’s famous market, where we spent our evening. Tomorrow will be another day working on the job site to try and finish the frames and pour the concrete.
Prayers and Praises:
We had the privilege to witness the faithfulness of the Lord when one member of their assembly who had previously left the church returned!
Seeing the markets and experiencing the culture was an amazing opportunity and blessing.
Prayers for the team as they continue the project, for health and safety and good teamwork.
Day 8: May 4th, 2026 -Guanajuato, Mexico
All of the frames were completed and all the cement was poured!
The work was completed early as well, which was amazing! A big pile of sand was needing to be moved out of the way so we finished off the work day by moving it, which was a really good team building experience, because it took a lot of helping one another.
As we near the end of the trip and our project, these are some of the reflections from the team: our hosts have been amazing to us, from the food to bringing us all over the city, they never stop serving us; Gratefulness for safety and timely finishing of the projects; lots of areas to serve, step up, and have more responsibilities.
Prayers and Praises:
Safety for the next steps in the project.
Prayers for the Munguia’s travels back to the US, as well as the rest of the team.
Meeting so many new brothers and sisters in Christ is a priceless gift!
Praise: we finished the walls!
Another praise: finishing early today gave us lots of rest and fellowship time in the evening.
Day 2: Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 -Guanajuato Mexico
Today the crew worked on putting up brick walls on the roof. Because many of us didn’t know how to lay bricks, there was a learning curve that was a challenge. But as is true of many mission trips, the heart to serve is clear in every member. We had a wonderful teacher, Julio, whose hardworking attitude challenged us to rethink how hard we could actually work . A hard thing we encountered today was the heat, which was a hindrance because the sun is almost a mile closer to us here, causing some pretty good sunburns. We were so thankful for our hosts providing us with plenty of good food to give us strength to keep going. We finished almost all of the first layer of brick, with one section left for tomorrow, and the rest of the walls awaiting another layer before we can add a roof.
Prayers and Praises:
We felt the mercy and goodness of the Lord when some cloud cover provided much better working conditions.
Join us in asking the Lord for continued shade throughout the day.
Day 3: –
Day 4: Thursday, April 30th, 2026 -Guanajuato, Mexico
Today the crew finished almost all of the walls! The only thing left in order to finish is a few more on the front wall.
We are still rejoicing and praising the Lord for the weather today, as it was much more bearable and it was breezy. (We also learned that yesterday was the hottest day Guanajuato has had in 20 years!)
Many of the support beams were added as well. But some mishaps and mistakes occurred and we had to redo one of the support beams so that it would be a supporting support beam 🙂
Prayers and praises:
Prayers for all of the concrete to dry in time for us to continue building
Prayer for strength and endurance
Praise for the wonderful refreshing weather!
Day 6: Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 -Guanajuato, Mexico
Today the crew enjoyed a morning without work, we got to sleep in, and then we went into town again to see some of Guanajuato’s famous buildings. We went to a chapel that had beautiful stone carvings and walls outlaid with gold. Then we went to one of the mines in the city, which Guanajuato is famous for because of its high production of gold and silver.
After our morning of sightseeing, we arrived at the worksite, there we had lunch and then proceeded to make frames to pour concrete for the roof. The frames took a while to complete so we were not able to pour the concrete today.
Prayers and Praises:
The morning without work was a much needed break for the tired team.
Day 9: May 5th, 2026 -Guanajuato, Mexico
Today was the team’s day off! We got extra sleep, which was very needed, and then toured the city most of the morning and afternoon. We went to the museum of mummies which is a very important part of Guanajuato’s history, and then we walked all over downtown and into the heart of the city.
Prayers and Praises:
The day off gave us an evening to recharge.
Seeing the heart of Guanajuato was incredible!
Prayers for strength and safety on Wednesday as we continue the project by putting up a roof.
Day 10: May 6th, 2026 -Guanajuato, Mexico
Mission accomplished. We have completed the second level by putting up walls and a roof! Today was a very successful day of work, and the crew worked super hard. The roof needed really heavy beams put up, and cement blocks laid in between them. This phase of the roof went up so fast! After the base was ready, a form needed to be put up around the roof so concrete could be poured on top. Team workers made an extra donation to provide a cement pourer to come and deliver the concrete straight to the roof, which was a huge blessing and saved us a lot of work. However, there was around 20 buckets of leftover cement that needed to be manually hauled up the stairs, and even though it was an unexpected challenge, we are so thankful for the cement we didn’t have to carry up.
Prayers and Praises:
Praise: we finished the project!
Another praise: among those we served with, we met many amazing people who had so much joy to spread as they worked with us.
Prayer for the travels back home tomorrow, we are hoping to leave after lunch.
Prayers for the assembly here in Guanajuato, that they will continue to be encouraged and supported.
